April 2005

Welcome back! Hope you are all well and had a peaceful winter. As spring starts to heat up so does our touring schedule and we are looking forward to a busy few months. We are on our way to the MerleFest and leave for the UK immediately afterwards. It will be our third trip over in the last two years and we are feeling very fortunate to have made such great contacts and friends over there. So great!

The big news for us is that our new recording has come out. Yes! Once again we turned Carl’s little farmhouse into our Dittyville recording studio, stuffed the windows with blankets and pillows, balanced mattresses on the walls. I wish we had pictures to show. It’s quite a scene. Beverly’s sister, Charlene, did another wonderful painting for the cover and Jerry (you’re the best!) Brown at the Rubber Room in Chapel Hill did another awesome job with the mixing and mastering. A treat for us was having Carl’s daughter, Kelli, sing harmony on one of the cuts. She’s becoming quite a fiddler as well. What a joy! The CD is called “Somewhere Over Yonder” (Carl wrote the title cut) and is available on our website and will be available elsewhere in the future. Knowing us, we probably won’t get around to getting it distributed till after summer and things slow down but you never know. That’s for sure!

The UK trip is going to be interesting. We’ll be over for a month, working just about every day, playing folk clubs all over England, Scotland and Wales. On our previous trips we’d played festivals, mostly on the weekends and pretty much kicked back during the week. This will be something new and we’re psyched. We’re both excited about the travel and getting to play that much together. What a treat.

We’ll be at SAMW again this year and we’re going back to Ashokan as well. We’ve also been hired to play at a festival in British Columbia where Beverly’s sister lives so we are really excited about that. They don’t get to see each other much. Check out our schedule for more dates. We’re looking forward to seeing you all again this summer. Till then!

Peace
Carl and Beverly
